The Last Days of Innocence is unlike almost anywhere else in OpenSim. From the moment you arrive, it feels as though you have stepped back into another age. A magnificent Art Deco-style building dominates the landing point while, overhead, a steampunk airship drifts lazily across the sky. It is an immediate reminder that this is not simply another shopping region, but a place built around imagination, nostalgia and storytelling.
Inside the impressive main building, vintage railway posters line the walls, evoking memories of a bygone era. As you explore further, you’ll discover a tranquil aquatic display tucked away in one corner, while outside a magnificent galleon sails majestically across the bay. Everywhere you look there are carefully crafted details that reward visitors who take the time to wander rather than rush.
Beyond the main building lies a delightful café and restaurant beside a shop filled with celebration-themed items. Across the road, a peaceful park features a steampunk hot-air balloon, while elegant residential homes blend naturally into the surrounding landscape. Nearby stands Fantasmagoria by Flame, one of the region’s highlights, containing an eclectic collection of free artwork, unusual decorative pieces and unique creations that are rarely found elsewhere in OpenSim. Don’t forget to explore the upper floor, where even more surprises await.
The neighbouring Empress of India building proudly embraces its British heritage. A traditional red post box, Union Jack flags and an intriguing collection of ornaments, perfumes and curios create the atmosphere of Britain’s colonial era. Outside, a paddle steamer glides across the lake while a giant blimp cruises overhead and, if you look carefully, you may even spot a mysterious flying saucer in the distance. Fantasy and history blend effortlessly throughout the region.
Continuing your journey, the New Dawn Spiritual Centre introduces a more mystical atmosphere. One particularly memorable feature is a statue from which water flows across the floor in a way that defies logic, adding a magical quality to the surroundings. This isn’t pure steampunk; instead it combines Victorian elegance, fantasy, mystery and imagination into something entirely its own.
The region’s unmistakably British character continues at Miss Martin’s School of Arts and Social Graces, where visitors are transported into the etiquette and traditions of a different age. Upstairs, an artist’s studio contains a life model posing for a portrait, adding another authentic period detail to the experience. Nearby stands an impressive stately manor house, while a bridge leads visitors towards the coastline where a steam locomotive, charming themed buildings and numerous hidden discoveries await exploration.
The Last Days of Innocence is not a destination that can be fully appreciated in a single visit. During my 45 minutes exploring, I realised there was still much left to discover, making it one of those rare regions that deserves to be bookmarked and revisited. If you enjoy nostalgia, steampunk, Victorian architecture, fantasy, quirky discoveries and beautifully crafted environments, this remarkable destination should be high on your OpenSim travel list. Oh and don’t forget to visit the little Welsh village on the corner of the region!
