If you’re looking for one of the most established social venues in OpenSim, Events Plaza in OSgrid is well worth adding to your travel list. As one of the grid’s regular entertainment hubs, it attracts a loyal community of residents and Hypergrid visitors who gather throughout the week to enjoy live music, DJs and friendly conversation.
From the moment you arrive, it’s clear that Events Plaza is intended to be a welcoming environment for everyone. Prominent signs at the landing point explain that this is a General-rated region where adult content is not permitted under any circumstances. The rules are straightforward, creating a relaxed atmosphere where visitors can simply enjoy the entertainment without distraction.
The landing area also provides useful information for newcomers. An events board keeps visitors informed of upcoming parties, live performances and special events, while a notice celebrates OSgrid’s impressive 19 years as one of the original and most respected OpenSim grids. New arrivals can even pick up a couple of free alien avatars before heading off to explore.
At the time of writing, the plaza features an imaginative Sci-Fi Manor theme. The venue is populated with colourful alien characters, futuristic scenery and decorative touches that create an enjoyable science fiction setting without overwhelming the space. Two performance stages accommodate both DJs and live singers, while a spacious dance floor with dance animations provides plenty of room for party-goers to join in.
Events Plaza hosts regular community gatherings, including Wednesday and Friday parties at 8:00 am Grid Time, although visitors should always check the event board for the latest schedule as additional events are frequently organised throughout the year.
During our visit, the surrounding sea occasionally displayed some flickering effects, although this appeared more likely to be related to viewer settings than the region itself. Visitors are encouraged to enable the region’s shared environment settings to experience the venue as intended by its creators.
More than just an events venue, Events Plaza serves as an important meeting place for the wider OSgrid community. Whether you’re attending a live performance, meeting friends or simply looking to experience one of OpenSim’s long-standing social venues, you’ll usually find a welcoming crowd and a lively atmosphere.
