Holoneon is an OpenSim grid that places a strong emphasis on supporting its residents, particularly builders, creators and those taking their first steps into the OpenSim world. With in-world technical support, regular community events and a generous collection of free resources, it provides an accessible and welcoming environment for newcomers and experienced users alike.
Our visit began with an unusual but memorable welcome beside an animated banana, proving from the outset that Holoneon has a sense of humour. Even more impressive was the immediate assistance offered by Niki Sweet from the Sweet family of creators, who happened to be present when we arrived. Having knowledgeable residents readily available to answer questions is a valuable asset and reflects the grid’s commitment to helping its community.
With a resident base of around one hundred users and social events taking place on most days of the week, Holoneon maintains an active community where visitors are likely to encounter other residents during their travels. Throughout our visit, people were regularly arriving and departing from the central area, giving the grid a welcoming and lived-in feel.
The landing area is designed with practicality rather than spectacle in mind. Arranged like a traditional town square, it provides easy access to information, freebie stores and teleports leading to other destinations across the grid. Around the plaza you’ll find a variety of useful resources including free textures, building components, avatar stores, bodies, avatar accessories, animation overriders, a photo studio and numerous items that can help both new and experienced residents expand their inventories. Holoneon also supports the Gloebit virtual currency system, providing additional opportunities for residents and creators.
Walking along the main boulevard towards the impressive Statue of Liberty at the far end of the avenue, you’ll pass display boards featuring Holoneon residents together with two innovative payment systems that demonstrate the grid’s interest in supporting commerce and content creation.
From a visual perspective, Holoneon’s welcome region is functional rather than extravagant. Its purpose is to serve as a central hub that connects visitors with the wider grid, and in that role it succeeds well. While some of the decorative elements, including a number of swimming pools placed throughout the region, may seem a little quirky, they add an element of individuality to a location that prioritises usability over architectural grandeur.
Holoneon’s greatest strength lies not in elaborate landscaping but in its community spirit. The combination of helpful residents, active technical support, plentiful free resources and regular social events creates an environment where newcomers can quickly feel at home. If you’re looking for a grid that values creators, encourages learning and offers practical support alongside an active social scene, Holoneon is certainly worth a visit.
